You are riding slowly in a town centre. Before turning left you should glance over your left shoulder to

Explanation: When riding slowly you must remember cyclists. They can travel quickly and fit through surprisingly narrow spaces. Before you turn left in slow-moving traffic it’s important to check that a cyclist isn’t trying to overtake on your left.
Example 2

You are on a road with passing places. It is only wide enough for one vehicle. There is a car coming towards you. What should you do?

  • A. Pull into a passing place on your right
  • B. Force the other driver to reverse
  • C. Turn round and ride back to the main road
  • D. Pull into a passing place on your left ✓ correct
Explanation: If you meet another vehicle in a narrow road and the passing place is on your left, pull into it. If the passing place is on the right, wait opposite it.
Example 3

You want to tow a trailer with your motorcycle. Your engine must be more than

  • C. 525 cc
  • D. 1000 cc
Explanation: You must remember that towing a trailer requires special care. You must obey the restrictions which apply to all vehicles towing trailers. Do not forget it is there, especially when negotiating bends and junctions.

There are no speed limit signs on the road. How is a 30 mph limit indicated?

  • A. By hazard warning lines
  • B. By street lighting ✓ correct
  • C. By pedestrian islands
  • D. By double or single yellow lines
Explanation: There is usually a 30 mph speed limit where there are street lights unless there are signs showing another limit.
