Example 1

You will be driving your vehicle in Europe. Which of these documents MUST you carry?

  • A. The vehicle service record
  • B. Your medical examination form
  • C. Your national driving licence ✓ correct

Explanation: You also need to carry the insurance certificate and vehicle registration document. Other documentation may also be required for some countries; check this before starting your journey.
Example 2

You are two and a half times over the legal alcohol limit. You are disqualified from driving. Before regaining your licence who will you have to satisfy that you do NOT have an alcohol problem?

  • A. The local hospital
  • B. Drivers Medical Branch, DVLA ✓ correct
  • C. Alcoholics Anonymous
  • D. Vehicle and Operator Services Agency
Explanation: If you are disqualified because you are two and a half times over the legal limit, you will have to satisfy the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s Medical Branch that you do NOT have an alcohol problem, before your licence is returned.

A Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) declaration is

Explanation: This will enable you to keep a vehicle off the public road for 12 months without having to pay road tax. You must send a further SORN declaration after 12 months.

What is the maximum specified fine for driving without insurance?

  • D. £5000 ✓ correct
Explanation: It is a serious offence to drive without insurance. As well as a heavy fine you may be disqualified or incur penalty points.
